I can thoroughly recommend the audio book I am listening to at the moment, The Summer Tree by Guy Gavriel Kay. it’s the first book in a series of three, the series is called the Fionavar Tapestry.
I had read the series some years ago and loved it. Now I am listening to the series, having downloaded them from Audible.com where I have been a devoted member for about the last 10 years.
Listening to the first book in the series, I am loving it all over again.
No spoiler alerts in this Blog post, you are going to have to go and read or listen to the series of books yourself. If you like fantasy, a mix between our world and another, magic and superb characters then you’ll be well rewarded.
for those of you who like audio books or for anyone who is curious to try an audio book I can honestly say this is one of my favourite and I have listened to many many audio books over the past 10 years. The narrator is Simon Vance and it’s the first book I have listened to from Simon. After listening to The Summer Tree I will be seeking out more of his work.
I’ll leave you with the publisher’s summary to whet your reading/ listening appetite
The Summer Tree is the first novel of Guy Gavriel Kay’s critically acclaimed fantasy trilogy, The Fionavar Tapestry. Five university students embark on a journey of self-discovery when they enter a realm of wizards and warriors, gods and mythical creatures – and good and evil….
It all began with a lecture that introduced five university students to a man who would change their lives, a wizard who would take them from Earth to the heart of the first of all worlds – Fionavar. And take them Loren Silvercloak did, for his need – the need of Fionavar and all the worlds – was great indeed.
And in a marvelous land of men and dwarves, of wizards and gods, five young people discovered who they were truly meant to be. For they are a long-awaited part of the pattern known as the Fionavar Tapestry, and only if they accepted their destiny would the armies of the Light stand any chance of surviving the wrath the Unraveller and his minions of darkness intend to unleash upon the world….
